I have a 120GPH Rio 180 pump.. and an aqua via 1300 (360GPH) pump..
I plan to have the 120GPH pump pump water into the inlet of my via aqua.. then out of the via aqua into my system..
The rio will be sucking in really cold water.. so it's going to be like.. only 90GPH..
I know that if all works right the stronger pump will start a suction on the smaller pump.. increasing the water flow.. Is this going to be harmful to my little rio 120??

How do you come to the conclusion that sucking "really cold water" will cause the rio to drop to 90gph?
anyway, if the combined restrictions in your system cause the flow of the aqua via to drop below 180gph then having the rio in series will help a bit, if it doesn't you'll actually be restricting the flow of the larger pump with the smaller one.
it won't hurt the rio, these kind of pumps don't have the pressure/vacume capacity to damage anything...
I've tested this in practice, been there, done that , bought the postcard
