In this thread there was a discussion about reservoirs/air-traps:

Now I've gotten myself a nice air-trap that seems to work great and clears out the air from my cooling system within 15 minutes. BTW, the system consists of a DD Maze-2, DD LPD rad(100x150x20) and an Eheim 1048 (a 3/8" or 9mm in-line system).
Last time I had this little air in the system was when I first installed the system and made a test-run on the kitchen table (for two weeks..

) Back then, the pump made virtually no noise except for the low humming you always get.
After I installed the system in the case, a rattling sound slowly appeared and I couldn't get rid of it. I blamed the air in the system as you could clearly hear the pump smash air bubbles in the impeller housing when you powered it up after leaving it off for a while. I discovered that the "T" in my in-line system didn't behave as the air-trap I had hoped, no air could be seen rising into it. But I lived with it as I had no time to correct it then.
Now when I have an air-free system I hear the same rattling noise that I had before the air-trap was installed. The impeller shaft bearings seems to have been worn out, am I right? Does anyone have any experience with this issue?
I know someone (Unaclocker?) had an article in which he described how to mod the impeller by removing the 180 degree "play" it has around the shaft supposedly getting rid of the noise. Basically you glue the impeller to the magnet (not the shaft!). This idea could possibly have some drawbacks in an aquarium but I see benefits in a computer cooling system (low noise). Anyone have an URL?
