If the heatercore is slightly larger it won't matter, because a fan would have to push a lot of air in the extra space (the perimiter) to make a difference.

The autozone idea is still best, and cheaper. As Tokamak already pointed out, most cores have flanged tubes, designed specifically for hoses and clamps. A few models have o-ring mounts, some Hyundai's (Canadian Stellar and pre 90 Excels) have a proprietary system, and the older Toyotas (so old that they were imported to the US) have a weird flared connection.

But the neat thing is that you can look at the part before you buy it.

You really can't go wrong with a heatercore.

If you give me a size, I'll give you a list of car models. Just measure out the area where you want to put that core, keeping in mind that most cores are 2 in. thick, and that you need to account for 1 inch for a shroud, and 1 inch for a fan.
