No, the holes in the WBs are already 1/2" wide, but instead of having the tapered American 1/4"NPT thread they are tapped with a 1/4" BSPP thread, which is straight all the way.

You don't need to widen anything, but when you screw in an American barb with 1/4"NPT thread, you can't screw it in all the way because the NPT thread is tapered, it widens from tip to middle.
