6-32 studs cut from a 3 foot long threaded rod. They don't just fall through, you gotta finesse em a bit. Using a tapered probe through the holes first helps expand the fins apart. Grind a tapered tip onto a length of stud if you don't have something like that.

I have also taken an old 120mm fan and cut out the center to use it as a spacer. I think it quiets up the BIX a bit getting the fan away from the core. If it wasn't so tedious, I'd like to whack away at some of the metal shrouding sticking up in the airflow around the core to see if it reduces the noise.
