Hahaa, speaking of pumps failing...

I bought a rio about 7-8 months ago, great little pump. User error, it seems, is going to be the blame for my failure. The shaft in rio pumps is a true ceramic material, like a pot or sculpture. Well long story short, the tile floor ate that little shaft about 4 months into my pumps life. Instead of paying $7 plus shipping for a new shaft (this would have been half the value of the pump), I put in another homeade shaft. It was a nice chrome plated axle from some toy car I tore up a long time ago. I was like, sweet! I popped that baby in and fired it up and let it run for the remainder of my pumps life.

The other day, I tore into my system to clean (hehe 4 months worth of grime). When I got into the pump, I saw a disaster. That cheap little axle was nice enough to rust.

So, now I have an Eheim sitting here on the floor waiting until I get my case painted.

As far as quality? My new Eheim is top notch. No wonder they have such a positive reputation. If you have the money, you might as well go for one you know will do the job.
