Umm Check the SCCA deffinition for Solo2, its AutoCross. Now running AutoX's outside of Solo2 classifications and rules happens a lot. so I guess it comes down to Any Solo2 is an AutoX, but All AutoX's do not have to use the solo2 rules and classifications. All the events I participate in are Solo2 and SCCA controled which is nice.
Someone with a 500$ Go Kart could spank a INtegra Type R on an AutoX course. Same thing with a stock beat up MR2, if the drivers good. it all comes back to driver skill NOT money put into the car. a 2.5L 165Hp Impreza 2.5RS can HAMMER a 300 Hp Modified WRX with Tarmac suspension and wider wheels. I have seen it happen quite often. All cause the guy in the RS is damn good and the guy in the WRX is OK. When the good driver took the WRX for a spin he clocked damn near 6 seconds faster on the course than the other guys fastest time in only 1 run. Money is involved in the starting but once you build a stable base that doesnt need to be the best out there, you work on perfecting what you can on it instead of trying to cover for the driving handicap you have by spending more and more more money. Which is what you have to do any way in a Drag since its all about power and none about driver. It may take a driver a season to learn a car and perfect it in club racing, but in a drag, give it 3 runs and the drivers learned all there is.
You ever get to an autoX early enough to see the drivers walking the course planning lines and braking points? Putting thought into the drive and building plans of attack? good AutoX drivers dont see the cones, they see the line and they perfect the line and try to run it as smooth as possible. Same goes for any sport where there is a line that needs to be planned out and perfected. This would be a more accurate description of how to AutoX "build a plan, trail brake through the turn, control ballance of the car, left foot brake, accelerate at the apex of the turn"
Which is much more complex than just trying to keep those big 2 ft wide tires from spinning on the back of the mullet mobile
BTW I have witnessed a mid 80's VW GTI (preped) eat a '01 Porsche 911 Turbo on an autoX course
Umm maybe you fail to understand the meaning of "STOCK cars" "Stock" These are cars that all fit into one SPEC. What you need to do is look at a series like American LeMans for multi Class racing, where cars CAN and ARE different but still all within Specs of eachother.
100% Spec racing like F1, IRL, CART, NASCAR, all the Feeder series, Star Mazda, Karts, etc... all restrict the race machine so the focus is on the race driver. Since thats whats important, who is the best driver not just who can buy the fastest car. ( in theory... most spec classes when you get to the insane price tags of F1 and such get around the spec restrictions and find loop holes for small advantages... look at Ferrari this year... but Schumacher is an awesome driver in any car hes in.)

No, I'm talking about old skool SpeedVision... Not NASCAR TV...err...Speed Channel. So I won't ever use Speed channel as a basis for what I watch...because SpeedVision and Speed Channel are two different channels.
By Solo2, I mean the size...our AutoCross isn't classified under Solo2...and so its small...the comment made was only for the smaller venues. Not Solo2...you're lucky to get to attend them btw.
I know all about the Go-Kart beating a Type R...like I said, I goto AutoX events...but Drag Racing does require the driver...don't let the looks fool you...you still need to steer. As it looks, what you refer to is low level drag racing...cause like I said, anything above 300HP and Bracket racing requires more skill than you think.

Actually, they are about the same.
Stock cars...uh yeah...they are far from stock...going back to the 70s...back when you could buy a 70 Dodge Charger with a 426 HEMI and slap some numbers on the side and win the race...but guess what, you win too much, you get banned...NASCAR loses again.
Don't put F1 in the same sentence as NASCAR...please.
Like I said, I'm into both AutoX and Drag. In fact, 3 weeks ago, I emptied my gas tank because on Saturday, I went to the drag strip, on Sunday I went to the SCCA event in the opposite direction. I like drag more...but saying it doesn't require skill is far from correct.
