I had the same problem with my res. Didnt use the goop properly and the water just seeped under it to the otherside. I was using it to cover a crack that pupped out where I tapped in my fitting
Anyways back to square one.
As for the DD res, Ive seen people fix problems with those by putting a sponge inside
