Bill means that Ben doesn't yet get how everything works together (or against each other). Ben has looked at many designs and noted the relative merits of each. Now he's trying to take all the "good" ideas and combine them into a single block. The various "good" traits are irrevocably tied to other traits and it is not so simple as merely "using all the good ideas at once".

I guess my problem is one of
style. Merely saying something is no good without saying
why it is no good conveys nothing. It is merely pissing on someone elses idea. There are very few people here who are unwilling to take constructive criticism, key word being constructive. But criticism for its own sake makes one appear merely sanctimonious.
