I heard somewhere (maybe StorageReview.com) that the IBM GXP drives are reliable BUT not for 24/7 usage. If memory serves, the drives are rated for 8 hours per day usage and anything over that, they are not guarranted to run reliably. I currently have a IBM 60GB 120GXP running in my sever and when I heard about that, I started looking for other alternatives.
To delay the effect, I told my system to power down the drive when not in use for 5 hours so it stays within specs. It is rather annoying when I want to play an MP3, plays the first 20 seconds of the song, stops for 10 seconds and then continues on
I finally got a Seagate 80Gb to replace it. Now I will have the Seagate as the storage/working drive and the IBM as a backup for my workstations RAID set; so I can stay at RAID 0 and know that I have another copy elsewhere.
