Not if you use silicone. Vinyl will collapse. The braided vinyl requires room to get a good turn, but will not collapse. I would also recommend a Danner Supreme Pondmaster pump. They are excellent and quiet, if you put them on a vibration absorbing mat (like fibrous open cell foam). Think about a 350 or higher. Maybe a 500? You should be able to pick one up online for around $50 USD. You'll hate yourself if you go for a Via Aqua or Maxijet or Rio.

Oh, and 1/2" ID Clearflex 60 (see Pro/Deals) can be stretched over 5/8" barbs creating bulletproof seals if clamped. Food for thought.
