I would take a look at amd.com and check their tech documents for the dimensions of the keep out space around the socket. I think 3-1/2 will be ok but double check anyways. I made my block 80mmX50mm and leaves just enough space. I have almost 1/4 inch of space between my barbs. That space will depend on your design though.

The MSI nforce boards don't have the mounting holes. I always loved MSI boards but the missing feature will keep me from buying a nforce board from them again. As for the ASUS boards? I'm not sure.
