You can get standalone WAPs that do not include router functionality. My linkys router/switch also can be converted to be a bridge by logging into it and playing around with configs so that should be no issue. I have been pleased with the entry level Linksys router/switch/WAP; it has been running fine for about 6 months now and I get good signal all through house and yard. Sounds like the easiest thing to do would be to set it up like:

Internet -->Main router-->WAP1

WAP1-->notebook and to WAP2
WAP2 with switch--> living room computers

If you just have one PC in the living room tho it would be simpler to just throw another wireless NIC into it.
