Actually I am on dial-up, but at 64K per picture (~11 secs each for a 56K dial-up) it's not
that bad. The pictures are raw images from the digital camera as I snapped them quickly and didn't have immediate access to any photo editing software at the time I posted them.
The barbs are sealed using O-rings which greatly reduces any chance of the finish being scratched. Given that you'd probably never pull them out the finish should be fairly safe. The top-plate mates flat, so again so real risk of scratching.
However, I too would like to see a copper top and have made that known quite clearly. The issue of course is cost (of polishing) and weight.
