it will only improve your performance if you are being fsb limited by your chipset. I considered it with my 760MPX chipset, simply because it heats up so much and was definately the limiting factor in my overclock over 180fsb
But if you've got a new canterwood board, then you won't need to worry about northbridge cooling until you get to ~320fsb.
Of course those two mentioned are extremes - what chipset are you running?
