P4 direct die, should I remove the heat spreader to lower my temps...?

Just wondering about removing the heat spreader from my P4. Seems the temps are a bit higher than they used to be on my old Celeron 900Mhz. I have a P4 2.6Ghz and have NOT overclocked it at all.

Could is be that the motherboard is just using the thermal diode on the CPU itself instead of an external sensor?

Under full load I am showing in MBM5 a temp of 45° C with an ambient room temp of about 23° C.

The old CPU was only at about 38° C under full load with the same room temp.
