I've dremeled into my CPU casings before (had to tear apart my old Slot-A Athlon to OC it, but I needed to mount it with the casing back on for the retention things cause of my 20lb HSF), so taking apart a socket and cutting a bit of plastic doesn't scare me at all. Judging by pHeastus's pictures, if you know anyone with a dead board you could even borrow the top part of their socket if you need to warrantee your board.
