Chipset solder eye mounts
Has anyone had any success using the soldered on eyes which some motherboards use to mount chipset heatsinks/fans to mount a waterblock, especially in a vertical position?
I tried this but had a few failures (eye gave way after about two weeks after mounting, board #1 - board #2 appears to have shorted, my fault so not putting me off much).
The board i tried with had two eyelets spaced diagonally across the chipset, and to mount i used a long thin block which was then attached using a hooked bolt (hole drilled thru end of bolt, hook manufactured for it). This was then tightened from above with wingnuts until the block would stay square whilst in its final position.. sorry i don't have any pictures, no camera.
If u had any success how did u mount?, how much pressure?, was it a lightweight block? etc. Looking for ideas that maybe i missed.
I have been considering a possible solution, mostly involving building an extremely lightweight block. Consisting of a copper plate (thinking 3mm thick, maybe 25x25mm depending on how small i could get it with oring/taps still fitting) this would then be sealed to a polycarb top of probably two layers with channel + barbs. This wouldn't be a high performance block by any means, with perhaps only dimples drilled slightly into the copper interface plate.
Does this sound like a solution at all?
PS. never used polycarb or an oring on a block b4, playing around in CAD atm, i'll post a clearer design of what i mean later.
