ok, yeah, i just did a bunch of reading on the new g5, and it's a farce and apple is terrible.
their benchmarks were heavily optimized for the mac, and heavily UNoptimized for the intel. they even disabled HT, and a few other things that are almost a requirement with pc's.
and what's more sad, is the g5 is a (very poor constructed) version of the opteron, it shares a lot of technology that amd came up with. and apple will not even acknowledge that. they won't test the opteron vs g5, because it can't even come close.
not only that but apple is strait LYING. they're claiming they're the first 64bit desktop (which is actually a workstation-class, not a desktop), and they're claiming all the things they have added that the pcs have had for months are THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS. like usb 2.0, agp 8x, and 400mhz ddr.
come on, these guys are lying out of their asses just to save themselves. the only thing they engineered was the case. they didn't even make the freaking OS that's supposed to be so great.
yeah, and what about all this power they have? 64bit OSX will not be released until months after the first boxes ship. in fact, amd will most likely ship the 2ghz opteron before apple does, so apple can't even claim that.
but they will, go look at their site. it is FULL of blatant lies.
i was actually starting to like apple, but not anymore. this is total bs. screw apple
