DSL installation varies upon the phone company and your internet service.

IE: SWbell uses a splitter that is installed outside in the phone box. Centurytel uses filters in each phone jack that takes the place of the splitter.

Both are easy to install. Keep in mind also that there is different types of DSL. ADSL is the most common type of DSL. You can hear varied distances from where the dslam is going to installed at. Most common is 15,000 feet. I've heard down to 12,000 and up to 17,000 feet. Another type of DSL is IDSL. You can be up to 25,000 feet from the dslam.
