That pump in the link looks really hot!

Really, anything that's got a better head, is better. You still have to watch the flow rate, but if you run a comparison with any of the Eheims (and we've posted the PQ curve a few times), I think you'll find that they can easily be beaten. As a reference, the typical flow rate is about 60 gph (probably with a typical 1048).

For our purposes though, the pump really needs to be of the centrifugal type, because anything else is going to be too noisy. Even then, some centrifugals are noisy. The Johnson pump that I posted about, has a small, but manageable "whir" to it.
