Some ways I agree, but in this case I was sort of in mixed feelings about it myself...
Among other projects, is the computer I wrote that case review article on for you (BTW, what is status on that these days?). I have the first WB milled, working on the second, started some of the case mods, and am doing some flow testing (ghetto style) which I'll be working on articles about.
I am working on building a fancy bed for us.
I have a second bike that needs to have the engine dropped and torn down (I blew an oil line, and rode several miles with very little oil... It might be OK, but I need to check it for damage)
I need to put up some walls in an attic space so we can use it for storing stuff from my apt.
I need to get my apt. ready to move everything out and into the GF's house.
etc., etc....
I seem to be aquiring projects at a faster rate these days than I can get them finished, and she convinced me that this isn't one that fits the 'essential' class definition.
Aside from not sharing my enthusiasm for aquiring more toys, she is a pretty good catch... She one of the very rare breed known as a GIRL geek. (I do hardware, she does software. She is a principle S/W engineer for a very major computer company, one notch below architect) Since I got laid off from my job about a year ago, we have mostly been living off her income while I do 'house husband' and odd jobs (primarily substitute teaching for $50/day) which is a deal I can hardly complain about!
On bikes, It is a small world to run into another Guzzi owner. I have two, both Cal II's, one an 84 and the other an 86. The 86 I purchased as a wreck with 2500 miles, and now have over 115K on it. I've had a sidecar on it for most of that time, which means I don't need to worry about snow. (You haven't lived until you've gone out in a blizzard, found some idiot that has gotten stuck in his 4WD, and ridden by him on your motorcycle, blowing the horn and waving

The 4WD guys are all friendly and wave back, but I have to feel sorry for their handicap, they all seem to only have one finger...

)
A time that I remember with great fondness was a few years ago when I went to an MC swapmeet on the bike. The forecast was dire, and attendance was light. The only other people to arrive on bikes were a group of Angels on their way to one of the local clubhouses who stopped to thaw and call for a pickup. It was a right decision for someone on two wheels, but it feels kind of cool to be able to keep riding when the H.A.'s are calling it quits...
The 84 was a recent purchase, and is the bike with the bad oil line mentioned above. It also has a hack on it, and is much fancier, or was before it got oil coated. A sidecar is a mixed bag in an oil-loss situation - you don't fall down, instead you keep running until the engine croaks....
I know about the WTF is that scene as well. I get it on two counts, both the bike and the hack. One of the things you learn about when you run an outfit is to allow for about 5-10% extra time at each stop when making plans. This is known as "SCDF" or "SideCar Delay Factor" and comes from the amazing number of people that want to quiz you about the rig delaying your travels.
On Squirrels - I forget the site, and it may not exist any more, but have you ever seen the 'Squirrel Fishing' web page? It's a hoot! Some guy got a fishing outfit, and tied a peanut on the end of the line. He then would cast out to near a squirrel, and after the squirrel grabbed the nut attempt to reel it in and see how close he could drag it in before the squirrel would let go.
This was in the Harvard / MIT area, so the squirrels were pretty tame, but it was amazing how long they would hang on. The squirrel would hang onto the nut while being reeled all the way in from a 30' cast, and literally let itself get picked up a couple feet off the ground at the end of the rod before giving up. Of course the guy got lots of headaches from the green freaky types because he was 'traumatizing' the poor tree rats...
