Pure silver (as in the >99.9% purity that this silver is) is quite soft, almost getting down to the softness of gold. If you bite it hard, you can make quite an indent.

However, having said that, I didn't need to alter the design. The honeycomb pattern between the cups is a very strong structure. I've pulled the block off a number of times now and inspected it after some pretty dramatic mounting pressures (about thrice the AMD recommend mounting pressure) and I've not seen any sign of "squishing" or "indentation" of the die into the base-plate.
