I suggest keeping any pump as low in the system as you can. A tall water column at the pump's inlet increases the pump's efficiency and quietens it's operation. This is called a "Flooded Head". It is never a good idea to lift a liquid or restrict a pump's suction side. Mounting the pump on the top of the case will also make the system difficult to prime and bleed.
