That's correct.
If you look close enough, you'll actually find a little hole in the drive casing, with an air filter element. The air inside is extra clean, dust free and all. Oil would seep inside of it, and eventually gunk up the drive heads, which actually depend on air to work properly, as they float or glide right over the platter.
