No it's not gold. It's polished brass. Very well polished i must say.
As far as i could understand (and my spanish is limited and the author didnt go into much detail ) :
The brass parts are welded to the copper base.
The top is acrylic with some sort of sealant.
The center is made with a thin radial saw. Thus the arcs.
The socket retention isn't very hard.
Interesting at least, the use of a radial saw to make it.
