Bud I do wonder about the thermal paste.....
Did anyone try? to replace the compount with a better one, and place the IHS back on, to avoid damaging the core?

A very good idea. It would be very interesting to know from any member who has removed the IHS what sort of quality TIM is used by Intel.
And also as fhorst asked above: What differance in temps would there be if the Intel TIM were replaced with AS-5? ?
