I think I will add a series of holes to help cut down weight without loosing strength

The tubing is part of my idea to keep things looking slimmer.
This card is going to be in a plexi case so it will be entirely visible.

Thanks for the tip on the Mica shims, I know exactly where I can get some too.

What size screws should I use for this?
I plan on tapping the DDR block and fixing the GPU side to that.
Or would small bolts and nuts work just fine?
