I'm not sure what nVidia's policy is, but I have successfully RMA'd defective hardware to ATi that had been altered with aftermarket cooling. I told them this was the case, and they said to simply slap on the original sink before returning it to them. I guess they figure that the aftermarket stuff will perform as well if not better than their own stock solution.
