On your inlet, you can attach a piece of pipe/tube/hose with holes along its length and its far end capped. That'll distribute the incoming water and disperse the energy without splashing.

Like everybody has said, filter foam will work for the vortex. I've also see baffles, bundles of small tubes (flow straightener), and the same sort of multi-hole diffuser pipe I've suggested for the inlet.
