Did you use some kind of solvent glue to hold it together?
Having all the bits like that at the top seems quite sound. The flow resistance should be pretty low, and you might also see some useful thermosyphon effect if ever something happens to the pump. In fact, if I were you I'd be quite tempted to experiment and see how well it does without the pump
