i'd venture the 2x1048.
mine (since i replaced the shaft) were practically inaudible (were, not using them anymore), but i also used a foam padding.

Hmm... Because I'm in the business of buying an RD-20, but I want silence. Do you think there's a big difference in noise between properly insulated and undervolted RD-20 and 2x 1048?

Need to make up my mind in three hours.

why a 220v pump when you can buy a 12v one?

The RD's are 24v.

So you're saying 1048s are quieter together than a single Iwaki 20 (or Blueline clone)?
I've just checked my new Swiftech Pump Relay Switch v2 kit and it has two outlets and if 2x1048 would be strong enough for me I could keep the noise level as low as possible in my new WC setup (Storm v2/MCW30/EK-FCX1800 CPU/chipset/VGA blocks, BIPIII rad w/120mm@7-8V fans, MCRES-MICRO Res, Tygon 1/2 ID).

I have both and 2x1048's will be much quieter than even an undervolted/insulated RD-20 and put less heat into your loop too.

Bummer. Already bought an RD-20 and an RD-30.

Just as I thought - excellent, thank you! The last question is whether 2x1048 are powerful enough for my restrictive blocks (at least as CPU & VGA considered, see my setup above)?

Well, it will work with two 1048's.
But the temperatures you'll get i can't say, will depend mainly on what you consider "good enough" .

I can cool an FX-57 and two 6800GT's, both OC'd, with a single 1048 pumping through a Storm (impingment), 2 X MCW55's, BIX3 and another 2 X 120 Rad. Temps are not great 32 idle, 38-40 load, but it works.

Thanks. Based on your specs my non-SLI setup should be fine with two 1048s, I think.

BTW those aren't horrible temps at all for me. Could be lower, I agree but not horrible.
May I ask what is the order in your setup? BIX3 rad after the Storm and then come SLI blocks and then the 120.2 rad? Reason I'm asking is because I just picked up a 6 months old 1048 with L.I.S 2 Premium VFD fan controller from eBay and a whole WC setup including a BIX comes with it - I'm thinking about putting it after my EK-FCX1800 VGA block...

btw, post the list of all your wc stuff so we (I at least) have a better ideia of what you're using.

Well, it's still under construction but here's what I've got so far:

Storm v2 (Opteron 175 @2.9-3.0GHz)
MCW30 (RD580 chipset on a DFI CFX3200 mobo, only to get rid of its fan)
EK-FCX1800 w/ CF-ready barbs (currently single X1900 XT(X), later either CF *or* upgrade to successor card)
2x 1048 pumps w/ PRS v3
MCRES-MICRO res
BIPIII 120.3 FDB fans rad w/ rheo
1/2" ID Tygon 3603 tubing

I'd go with a "normal" approach. Res-> pumps -> blocks (all in series, first the storm) -> rad -> res. Done.
No fuss.

Hmm... so you're saying it's useless to use another rad if I have one? This BIX 120.1 came for free...

not useless, just add it , but be careful where, and drawing air from where.
but that depends on your case, etc etc.

Originally I've planned Enermax CS718 (aka Maxflow) but it turned out my DFI's Karajan audio module wouldn't fit aside of the rear 120mm fan (thou' as silence is one of my primary tartget I don't plan to keep any fan unless it's essential), so now I'm torn between Lian-Li V1000pII and AeroCool Masstige (w/ thumbscrews)...

Airflow: both rad will be outside of the case, somewhere 3 feet high behind my desk, not too close to the wall, so airflow won't be restricted and rads will be 3-4 feet away from each other horizontally. I'm planning to hang them from the back of the desk, on heavy rubber strings, so no vibration will be transferred.

How about res->pump->Storm->BIX 120.1->pump->EK-FCX1800->MCW30->BIP 120.3->res? I know it's a lot of tubing, especially from this Tygon but that doesn't matter and I won't move this guy anywhere once it's done.

never tried separating the pumps that way,
i did ran two, but in one feeding the other, not on another point in the loop.
can't really say that will be better, so if you got time and patience, try it
