Papst 4412F/2GLs. How Many Should QuietPC Order/Stock?
From a post over at SilentPCReview (SPCR), link to post.
Quote:
This has been one of the best choices for heatercore/rad apps when quietness is desired. The 4412 has been unavailable in the US maket, as far as I know, since Directron stopped carring the line. And unlike Directron's old stock, this version of the 4412, the F/2GL, has RPM signal output. Just wanted to post this over here to let everyone know of the opportunity. This is not a group buy. Just simply to get an idea of how many Dave should order/stock. Edit: If anyone what's to post this over at another forum, feel free. Just let me and FG know. Thanks. I didn't vote but I'd probably buy 2 or 3 for my fan collection

What about that review makes the papst fans better than the already available nexus/yate loons?
I can find those around for roughly $5 still (actually I plan to order two more this week). It sounds like the papst flow is better but at the expense of noise? |

Simply put, the Nexus/YateLoon isn't an excellent choice on a heatercore. If I was pushing for the absolute quietest setup with much less regard for performance (which may fit you), I would go the Nexus/YL route on the thinnest heatercore I could find i.e. <1". Though true, I personally would go with the Sunon AC route, but very few have gone through the hassle, mainly since most quiet/silent geeks that are watercoolers like the Reseratior. Most hardcore quiet/silent geeks aren't even watercoolers. A XP120 w/ a Nexus/YL at Vmin does them just fine. Then again...they aren't looking for 3GHz out of their A64s lol. A Nexus/YateLoon in a farly unrestrictive environment, like say a compuer case with cut out fan grills and excellent cable routing, the Nexus/YL would be the better choice over a 4412 hands down. Slap that Nexus/YL on a heatercore, esp. one thicher than 1", and the 4412 becomes the better option. In a nutshell, every product has its knack. For a Nexus/YL, high restictive enviroments just aren't one of them. Welcome the 4412. ... I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a Yate Loon D14SL/M-12 though... Yate Loon also makes a 38mm version of their D12s. The D12SL/M-12D. That would probably a good heatercore choice. Even with zero experience with the D model, I would venture to say it's the only SPCR or near SPCR quiet spec 38mm DC fan out here. Quote:
Who would buy Yate Loons in Europe? (Update, price info) It's a current thread. Go ahead and post/vote so Aleksi can get a good idea. DrCR ________ Last edited by DrCR; 04-20-2005 at 10:33 PM. |

I have one...
One too much. No noise, but but NO airflow too. I prefer my Panaflo L1A's... CD

As far as I'm concerned, the 4412 puts out a good bit of air, esp. at 12V. Then again, I like to acheive seriously powerful cooling while doing it all very quietly. |

My big issue with Papst fans has always been the stunningly poor consistency. Out of a batch of 5 you'd get one really good one, one with bearing noise, and three with The Click of Death. Order just one, and its a roll of the dice. I haven't seen any evidence that the situation has improved; if anything it's rumored to have gotten worse with their outsourcing of the manufacturing. (which was also the downfall of the L1A's)
That's the real reason the overpriced Nexus' have become so popular...they're cherry-picked for consistency. If QuietPC can get their importer to allow them to cherrypick, it may be very interesting. If not, I'll likely save my money for Vegas instead. |
