Default Abit KT7A Volate Mod problems

Got a problem....

Got a new ABIT KT7A (v1.3) MB and added a voltage mod to get Vcore up to 2V. Used the procedure from here:KT7 Voltage mod

I used a 1/2W 30Kohm resistor for my mod. The mod worked fine HOWEVER I have lost 2 video cards since installing this new MB and Vmod. My original Voodoo3 3500TV was the first to die and now my brand new GeForce3.

Currently running system on; Vcore @ 1.95 (highest @ 1.97) and I/O @ 3.3 (highest 3.4).

Has any one else tried this procedure and had any problems because of it?

Am I doing something wrong?

Please help; dont want to kill another GeForce3 card

Maybe the solder job isn't good and you are hitting some other contact points. Or maybe the wire brushes up against the GF3 when it is on and causes a short...

Opps

Forgot to mention that that was the first thing I checked. All my contacts are clean and not touching anything (even checked it with a magnifying glass) and it doesn ttouch anything of the GeForce3.

However, I tried turning the system on a few days later and the card lived! Worked for about 5 mintues then hardlocked again. Reset and changed the AGP mode from 4X to 2X and it hasn't hardlocked since (even after moving the I/O voltage back up to 3.4V; for stability reasons)

I an not sure WHY I can't run in AGP 4X mode but I heard somewhere that it really doesn't matter all that much. Will have to look into that.

But thanks for the reply though.

Update (for those who care):

My GeForce3 is now deamed defective....
The dang thing just locks up constantly, creates artifacts in 3D mode under 4x AGP and altogether just bad RMA it soon.

ABit board stoped working one night and have yet to get it working again (suspect short somewhere between case and MB)

Removed Abit board and currently running ECS K7S5A w/ 1.4T-bird with 1GB DDR RAM @ CLS2.

If ANYONE knows of a way to overclock on this MB PLEASE let me know.

Thanks for those who have helped me with my problems.

Una has modded this board to shit... he added multiplier dip switches, did a vmod, and added a voltage mod to the RAM controller . Talk to him.

hmm odd, my gf2 won;t run 4x on my KT7A at all either, hardlocks, gfx artifacts (esp. while texturing), etc. Works fine in 2x... I kinda voided my warranty modding the gf2 though so I can't rma it :P

Bummer

Heh... that's one of the reasons I waited on modding my GF3..... too bad i didn't follow that same advise when I moded my second KT7A right out of the box..... opps

WEll I had to replace the ECS K7S5A with an ABIT KG7 (ECS 1.4Tbrid w/ DDR RAM is NOT stable at aLL!!!!)

BUT with the KG7 got my system up and running flawlessly and even OC the 1.4Tbird up to 1.705 !!! (155x11) Unfortunately old video card doesnt like 155FSB so now running @ 1.725 (150x11.5) until i get my GF3 back; then trying for 155 again!!!

Good luck though and I am not quite sure if the 4X mode problem is due to the mainboard.

my gf2mx400 on KT7A, everything oc'd to hell and back, hardlocks with high I/O voltages, but is groovy at normal I/O, dunno if that helps, it may be a KT133A voltage thing... dunno
