fluid mixing?
I have a fairly large system filled with koolance brand coolent, and while I don't have much in reserve of the same stuff, I do have a full bottle of coolent from another company. The mix of the two different coolents is fairly similar, but one is dark blue and the other is a bright red.. just wondering if it'd be that bad of an idea to mix the two together or not. I'm quite the cheapskate and don't want to have to buy new fluid if I don't have to..
otherwise, where can I get some coolant for really cheap? Is it really cheapest to just do 49% distilled, 49% anti-freeze, and 2% waterwetter (or something equivalent)? what do you guys suggest? |

A little anti-freeze, a little Zerex, you'll be ok.
We don't recomend Water wetter nor Purple Ice. No advice on the mix; what's the other one? |

Hey ben,
Why don't you recommend Water wetter? |

Bill had some bad experience with it, and pHaestus (and another new member) identified that there's a component that solidifies, and slimes up the inside of a loop. Purple Ice has the same properties.
The jury is still out on Zerex, but anti-freeze (ethylene glycol or propylene glycol) checks out ok. |

so you think it'd be fine for me to mix these two different coolants?
holy crap.. this is the other stuff i have: http://www.cooltechnica.com/Merchant...Code=Zerex-RSC it says it should be used at a 5% to 95% mix with distilled water.. ! the koolance stuff i'm using right now is this stuff: http://www.xoxide.com/kolicore.html nevermind lol.. i think i'll have plenty by simply using my 4oz bottle of super coolant :O |

That Koolance stuff appears to be regular antifreeze, premixed with distilled water, and packaged in a stylish foil bag.
Those additives can be safely mixed if you like. The Zerex will probably outperform the antifreeze by a slight margin if you only add 5%. |
