Default where to buy 3/8" BSPT in the US?

I just bought a PA160 from the UK, but forgot to throw in some 3/8" BSPT/ID barbs. I was wondering if anyone knew of a place in the US that sells these. Mcmastercarr says "ships within 2 weeks."

Is ordering through the UK the only viable option?

thanks.

I just checked www.mcmaster.com and they have 3/8" BSPT nipples use part #2940K1 and then select your sizes.

Well, have you tried Parker Fittings? They are a pain to deal with but might have them.

Or DangerDen sells that radiators as well maybe they would sell you the fittings even though they don't list them on their website seperately. Sorry that I don't have a better answer

DangerDen retaps ThermoChill rads to 3/8" NPT to avoid having to source BSP fittings.

Is retapping the better choice? I just ordered the PA160 from DangerDen and have the same problem. I doubt that the local hardware store carries BSPT.

*groan* wish they'd make their mind up... getting mixed reports from all over the place of NPT vs BSP now. ALL ThermoChill rads leave here 3/8" BSP, and no-one's asked us for permission to retap or asked us to build them NPT to start with, so I'm at a loss on that one...

How different is BSP to NPT? maybe some people tryed NPT with a bit of force and it worked?

I bought an XSPC rad which had BSPP fittings with it which wouldnt screw in more than two turns I think. I tryed BSPT aswell before I gave up and retapped it. With a bit of force it would have went in without retapping.

If sourcing barbs ia a problem in the US, ship them with the rads and put the price up a few quid?

NPT BSP adaptors exist. An if any thing is made anywhere, surely then surely somone in the US will be selling it!

these guys seem to (though as they have a $50 minimum order you might need to pitch it as a sample request...)

That's always been an option available to them that hasn't been taken up...

Here's a decent explanation, with pictures and all.

IMHO retapping is a very bad idea. The British expression "bodge" comes to mind I'm hoping that they at least use a fixture to ensure the tap is exactly parallel with the existing hole - and that they line up the two starting threads so it's not set up to auto-cross-thread. Of course, with NPT the first engagement point isn't necessarily the first thread, so maybe this is a non-issue (?)
Then there's the whole issue of trying to seal through thread deformation - with likely malformed threads (depending on how the old and new pitches interact in that short deformation area).
Maybe supply rads to DD that aren't tapped at all?

the first thread that is impacted from retapping a BSP to NPT is the fourth thread.

Is that a matter of taper or pitch interaction?

Marci,

I just received a Swissflow 800. The fitting is 3/8" BSP male. I'd like to connect this directly to my PA160 but on the ThermoChill site it says 3/8" BSPT. I understand these to be 2 different threads but the Swissflow seems to fit easily although it is a touch loose until firmed down. I'm guessing this isn't a good idea.

What do you think?
