Default cold plate question.

I'm installing a 80W peltier and watercooling on my classic athlon 500.

The original aluminum coldplate touches the cache chips (sort of), but I will be replacing it with a copper coldplate. Does it really need to touch the cache? Or can I just put a small plate on the core and forget about cooling the cache chips?

Another question: how about making the coldplate touch the processor die in addition to the core? Or would that be a waste of effort?

Answers appreciated!!

Well, if the coldplate touches the cache, it will cool the cache in addition to the core. Is this necessary? not sure... the effects of cooling cache haven't really been explored too much.

cache will also benefit from cooling (especially from subzero temps)
but not as much as the CPU

they're both made in the CMOS process...

keep it cool...
