Default Pump orientation

Hey all,

Getting ready for my first water cooling project. I've got 2 CSP-Mags that im trying to fit in my case, and i was wondering about the orientation effecting the rotor/bearings. Ive search the owners manual but it does not cover this. Any thoughts?

Should not make any difference. I would however try to avoid the inlet facing down.

I agree. I have my inlet facing up so that way, it is unlikely that air pockets will get trapped in there during the bleeding phase.

Pretty sure that's the only concern: if orientate it so that air bubbles could get trapped around the bearing or seal, then it could wear faster than normal.

So you could go for inlet down, providing you were extra diligent with bleeding and then remembered to give your case a tilt/shake (with pump off) every day to ensure any bubbles go somewhere else.

Cool guys, thanks for the fast reponse. I was thinking of putting them on the bottem of my case with the inlet up to avoid the extra space for the hose to make that "s"shape up to my res. Another spot I was think of putting them was directly behind my Danger den HDPE res. This is the res with 3 nipples. If I cut the tubing so its 11/2" long or so I can canilever the pumps off the back of the res. maybe use a bracket so the pumps weight does not fully bear onto the res fittings. There is more room here (up by the optical drives) because of all the PCI cards I have below. This may also my a great way to isolate noise/vibrations. My concern is the if the pumps are at the same height as the res, they will run dry if the water level drops for whatever reason- or they may also pull in more air that would normaly sit at the top of the res.

Also do you guy place componets based on the threat of a leak. In other words do you think about how to minimalize the damage from a leak by placing as much of the water cooling system below your expensive parts.

according to c-systems, there is no seal around the shaft, just like in any mag-drive pump. air should not be a concern if the system is sealed and you have a resevoir. just pinch the outlet tube a few times or turn the system on it's side (make sure you don't suck air from the res back into the pump).

the orientation shouldn't be a concern either, but i wouldn't have the inlet facing down as that will make priming the pump more of a hassle than it needs to be. mag-drive pumps cannot move water if the inlet has a pocket of air in front of it.

i would need more specific details about your system and how you plan to mount everything befor i can comment on pump placement. make it work, make it look good, make it quiet.

Is best to mount pump horizontal, if possible.
Bleeding is the major issue and this orientation will give best results.
