Default Fake Laing DDCs doing the rounds...

Some unscrupulous toerags have started cloning the Laing DDC, and selling it AS the Laing DDC. Beware.

Genuine is on the left. Fake is on the right.

PDF from Laing GmbH showing differences with german descriptions can be found here: http://yohanng.free.fr/fausse%20laing.pdf

Is this bad because Laing still has valid patents or just because no one should use the same design (ever)? I'm all for Laing making money for a while because of their great design, but I don't know when that should stop. I don't know how long the DDC has been out or how long patents last in US and/or Germany.

Wow, the differences are very subtle! Kinda hard to put it in one simple sentence. The third pair of pictures is the most obvious.

The design looks inferior to me (ceramic shaft, cheap impeller).

Always saddened to see things like this.

I is subtle but noticeable if you had a DDC in your hands. I don't mind knockoffs but when they are cheap it pisses me off.

subtle? i think its blatent actually, im surprised they didnt make it closer. I suppose going with substandard design means you have to change the dimensions to suit the internal parts.

I don't see it as blatant because if it was it would be an exact copy to the delphi down to the logo to the indentations in the actual plastic frame and the height.

It is substandard and a cheap knockoff. Probably wouldn't cost much more producing an exact copy.

Knockoffs, even shoddy knockoffs, are fine, but "selling it AS the Laing DDC" isn't. Selling it as a DC watercooling pump made by "Falschung" would be fine, in my opinion.

Good point, AngryAlpaca. You know that I wasn't paying attention because I didn't even see that part of Marci's post (apologies to Marci).

Fraud = bad

It's true but in this world where there is financial motive to do such things, I understand why someone with a lack of ethics, intelligence, and simple ability to copy something correctly would do this. Fast $$. Obviously the person who deisgned it meant to rip off high end customers but in the end this thing will sell in amrket were $$ is most important.

You get what you pay for.

Selling it as the Laing DDC is plain wrong.

Aside from that, I am curious though. Is it any quieter?

Still blows me away people with the resources it takes to copy such a product don't just make their own. Even if the thing was not of the same quality they could just adjust the price and probably make good money legit.

All the things I could think of producing and selling if I had those resources.... Just no need to copy others and try selling as them.

Not only lack of ethics but just plain greedy.

I agree jaydee. If you are going to build it then just make it look different and market it as your own.

Obviously they are so dumb they put the same 90 degree angle on the pump like the DDC without realizing its the biggest flaw of the pump. Without the bend it might perform on par with a DDC. I bet with that internal design it is louder than the DDC though, which is one of the DDC's great attributes.
