why not internal 1394??!

::shakes fist at the firewire::

I was looking at this 1394-to-ide bridge thing; it's *just* the oxford 911 chip on a circut board with the conectors, no frilly drive coffen jacking the price and shortening the life of the device

okok look at this stuff mb [is parinoid about advertising the page mb]
CoNNecTors:
**40-pin IDE connector x 1
**6-pin IEEE 1394 connector x 2
**3-pin power connector x 1
**2-pin LED connector x 1

**Power Requirement : 5V/ DC ; 130mA ~ 200mA

nothing wrong with them apples?

hmmmmm.....What would i need to know about this thingie's 3-pin power connector to get it hooked up to a moltex properly?

nothing wrong, but why would you use firewire internally with an adapter to ide? it's slower, probably have more latency, and you'll have to use an adapter somewhere

Default good question!

the whole thing is an adaptor

& interal has a higher sexey factor! mUAhaha

but really; you mb know, but i duno if you kno!,

fireWire HDD = ATA HDD + 1394 bridge; that returns true

in other words: there is no such thing as a 'bare' firewire drive.
weird eh? so interal is just as good as exteral as far as latencey goes, mb better because ther wont be 69ft of cable trailing around the office lol

huh but makes me think - [rare event indeed] - that damn firewire is busspowered right? i must wonder why the bridge has a power requirements and a connector then... and the drive would want a molex jabed into it.

Blarmy!!

Firewire runs a nice current on it...

I only know this, because my Audigy has SB1394 on it... The warning for the audigy card 1394 is you CANNOT put anything that draws power off the 1394 on there... mainly because you will fry your Audigy. You can hook up self powered external devices like a HD or something like that.

=========
That's all I know... Just wait for Serial ATA anyways... that will just blow your hypothsis away anyways :P

bahh, just use normal ide or scsi inside a case, and usb2, firewire or scsi outside a case

Default ahhhhh ok mb it is a bad idea!

ahhhh loL ...that would be the logical thing to do, keep the firewires and usb2s outside the case. huh usb2 now, i can see why firewire is sooo weird; apple thought that up, but usb2, that's microsoft's funkie thing. - so why don't se see interal usb2 bridges??!

ehhh well ya... is sort of hairbrained the more i think about it; it would cost 65$ per ata drive i hooked up that way >iF< the crazzy thing would work interally at all
hmmm but in contrast to scsi that isn't 1/2 bad... when a just one scsi-3 ribbon cable costs upwards of 50$ ewwy...

lOl...kk *stops thinking about scsi raid* BAck To reality!

is a firewire drive *really* any faster than an ata-133 controler with a compariable drive? or is this all moot because of the crappy pci bandwidth?
