When I go into the BIOS after a cold boot the cpu temp shows 38.5 C temp... is that right? Ambient is around 30-33 at MOST, I doubt it's even that. (BTW, I'm on a Asus A7M266 w/ 1800 XP)
Also: Any guides on putting another probe of my own on the core itself? I know almost -everyone- has an external probe thingy of their own but I've never seen any guides on how to do it... |

the core of the xp is to thin to do this. The best way is to ge tone of he newer asus mobo's that support the xp diode that is built into the cpu.
Those temps depend on what you are using to cool your cpu.

high temps in the BIOS are normal; what you want to look at are the temps from within windows.
heres an article that should give you some probe-mounting ideas.... |

just stop the fan and see if the temps climb quickly. it'll tell you fairly quickly if it's working

Lots of AMD motherboards don't let the CPU idle completely (CPU_HLT) but you can enable this with WP Credit. There is a remote possibility that your CPU probe reports the right temp. Maybe it can get pretty close to correct at idle using the HLT command though
