two aqua via 1300 or one eheim 1048?

Alright, one Aquavia 1300 is $20. One Eheim 1048 is $60.
Eheim quality is lengendary. Aquavia is iffy.

But iffff the Eheim craps out on me in the middle of the night I'm screwed, so should I just buy two Aquavia's, save $20, and run them side by side at the same time in a closed system, just in case one of them dies and the other can act as a backup?

Stupid question --> Would doing so double the GPH?

Finally, in a closed system, Aquavia's don't leak like Mags, do they?

Thanks. First time at water cooling and have spent last three days straight reading about it.

Thinking about purchasing Black Edge waterblock, d-tek cooler core combo, BECooling mini chipjacket, 4ft Tygon tubing, and can't decide on pump... (cooling Athlon 1.3)

I'd go for two via aqua's, but I'm not 100% sure about them in an inline setup, whats to keep you from running them in a res?

then spend the extra money and go for the ehiem. It's got a nice little bolt down plate so you can secure better and throw away the plastic barbs that come with it and replace them with some brass units.

go aquavia, aquarium pumps are made to go 24/7 so you shouldnt worry about it, i know a guy with 2 pumps, they arent that but i think they are danner, and they have been running for almost 5years strait in an aquarium, so i really dont think you have to worry about failure unless you run super hot liquids thru it for some reason....

Put them in a 'T' and you'd double flow, or at least force applied to coolant.

Anyone know the exact dimmensions of the Via ?

I am thinking of one or 2 of them in my Dual AMD rig I am constructing. trying to see if I have space. I may in the end just go with 2 small Mod'd Mag drive 120Gph or something running in Parallel

Two pumps will work, but...

keep in mind that this pump (like all other pumps) have a maximum head, i.e. a maximum pressure that they can take: if both pumps are running together, they will not exceed that maximum pressure.

The benefit of using two pumps is that a higher flow rate will be achieved, but it's not as simple as 2+2=4: the flow rate may not double.

Another advantage is that if one pump fails, the other will still work, and keep things going. It would be interesting to setup something to detect a "dead pump" condition (AC wired LED???).

I've thought this trough this past weekend, and I can't think of a way to setup the pumps so that the flow is actually doubled (check valve?). Even in series (pump after pump), the benefit would be marginal, simply because the pump is not designed to run as a booster pump.

Yeh the redundancy is the reason I want it

And I have used 120V NEON bulbs not LEDS

If one pump dies, the coolant will take the path of least resistance- which would be through the dead pump and back to the live one. It probably would still kill the CPU unless you figured out a way to prevent back flow through a dead pump.

Exactly, except that not all the flow will be diverted through the dead pump. This can be prevented with a check or flapper valve, but some kind of valve is definitely needed.

Sweet.
Thanks for all the replies! I just got the two pumps and they're heavy as hell! I think I'm just gonna whing it and connect them something like

--CPU---<----radiator--^
|XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX|
->--pump---pump------>

I'm gonna test the pumps and see if they will actually back up with one pump turned off.

Do you guys know anyplace where I could get a 3/8" adapter for the 5/8" or 3/4" hose barbs for these Aquavia 1300s?

Thanks in advance...

Joe,

Before I had the 1048, I used two Rio's.

One was an 800 submerged at the start of the loop, the other was a little 180, that I modded, and had inline near the end, to help push the water back to the res. (Was using a 55L cooler that sat on a shelf above my desk...a lot of head for any pump)

One of those white nylon male 3/4" threaded-to-1/2" barb fittings...whatcha-call-it...Poly pipe adapter fits perfectly over the ridge on the front of the impeller cover on the 180...it's a slightly snug (perfect) fit. I sealed it to be safe, and it ran like that for 6 months until I rebuilt this thing.
