I have my WB and Pump, and the tygon hosing is on its way, but my radiator decision has proven to be the hardest part.
I originally wanted to purchase a Black Ice II Radiator for my water cooling setup. I wanted to mount this in the top bay of my Antec SX830 Case. I really wanted this project to leave as much free area at the bottom of the case as possible, that is why I decieded on top mounting. I don't want to front mount it at all. The dimensions of the BI2 seemed perfect for the task (9.79 x 5.9x 0.98 inch) However, everyone seems to think Heater Cores are a much more effective way to cool your WB, so I gave in and decided to take a look. On my way from work today, I stopped by Advance Auto Parts and looked at their Heater Core book (It had pictures and dimensions which was great). After about 25 mins, I found 9 heater cores with dimensions that are some what close to the BI2. that list was then cut to 6 when the guy working there said he couldn't get 3 of them. These are the models I found with prices : Black Ice II - 9.79" x 5.90" x 0.98" $59 -------------------------------------- Toyota (2-703) - 8.50" x 5.75" x 1.25" $105.29 GM (2-681) - 10.5" x 6.25" x 0.98" $66.99 Ford (2-671) - 6.00" x 6.13" x 1.25" $79.99 GM (2-471) - 9.50" x 5.63" x 2.00" $44.29 Honda (2-570) - 7.88" x 4.34" x 1.25" $82.39 Toyota (2-609) - 7.13" x 5.25" x 1.25" $61.99 I guess I don't really see the value with getting one of these, and here are my reasons. 1) First off, a heater core has no pre drilled holes for mounting a fan or shroud, so I will have to spend alittle more to make it fit. 2) All of the heater cores above have either 3/4 or 5/8 barbs, so I will need an adapter or 2 to make the hose fit. 3) A couple of the heater cores above have some very strange default barb configurations. I would probably have to cut them to make them fit correctly. Okay, I've given my none educated views. Can you guys help me and tell me what you think. If you know of a radiator/heater core that can fit an a top 5 1/4 bay, let me know, It will only make my search easier. |

You may just want to go with a Black Ice eXtreme. It has better cooling capabilites than the Black Ice II and uses only one fan, thus much smaller. Otherwise, if you can post links or pics of these other heater cores, then we could probably fix you right up
![]() Edit: I am at work so I dont have the time to go searching though the web to locate detailed info and some pics on the heater cores. Not because I am lazy ![]()

I've also thought about the BIX, but since it and the BI2 can cool at aobut th esame performance level I pick the BI2
Also, I got koolance to send me one of the3 fan shrouds they use at the top of the case for 10 bucks shipped. With that, my setup was going to be 2 120mm fans blowing up from below the radiator to the 3 80mm fans blowing out of the system at the top. I alread have the 2 panflo 120mm and 3 80mm Vantec stealths on order. |

I just checked it out toddalaska, it is too big to fit within a 5 1/4 bay. It is alittle to tall at 2" and much too wide at 7"
Excellent price on it, but it has to be less then 1 3/4" thick and no wider then 6.25" inches. The length can go up to about 12" without a problem. |

try using www.heatercore4u.com
I've been browsing for a heatercore for ya for the last few mins... Get the part number from there and try looking it up at napa's site as its usually cheaper there.. I've found many that would work for ya there, but trying to get the "ideal" size and price. |

Some of the ones I just found, they are about the right size, but the price seems high.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...em=1838366051I
wonder if the people on this ebay auction know that they're bidding for the same heater core as on the other auction I posted ![]() Well, they're going above $60 so maybe there is a reason for their willingness to pay so much, then again, maybe there isnt lol |

I'm kind of surprised that no one has mentioned this. You guys are doing all this research. Once you've found one that will fit, go to a junk yard and pck it out. Chances are that it'll be around $10 bucks or less. Just super-flush it to got all the old crap out and you're golden! Plus someone else said that they got all kinds of hoses and stuff for free. I know that you said that you were using tygon, but that's just a bonus.

I did say that, but then I remeasured and came up with 2 different situations
If I only use top mounted fans to exhaust the hot air, I can go up to 2" if I only use the top fans in the koolance shroud. For extra cooling, I could also add a 5-1/4" bay cooler. If I do fans at the bottom and top of the heater core for that push/pull effect, then the heater core will have to be between 1-1/3" and 1-2/3" max. Since this heater core is so cheap, ($16.99) I don't mind taking a chance on it. If it doesn't work good at the top, I can save it for a second water cooling project down the road and get a different heater core |
