Default New Spir@l

I've just seen it at DTek, what do you think about it? If it performs half the look, will be great... But I've read that first Spir@l were poor perfomers, was it true?

"The unique Cad designed 1/2" spir@l will supply the highest flow rates of any block on the market. This is a new version of the original Spir@l which now utilizes ribbed channels, Polycarbonate top and hose barb options"

The original spiral was an excellent performer! Dan from dansdata.com reviewed it, and he got better results than the DD Maze 2.

I don't see in the picture what they call "ribbed channels". Am I blind? I'll check out dtek.

For what I see, channels look not flat but like they have waves. Not exactly what I'd call ribbed but...

Well, if you look very closely on the back wall, or the back of the inside channel, you can see faint horizontal "ribs". At least, that's what I see.

I think that's a shadow... It couldn't be ribbed horizontally, well, I guess it could, but that's be hell to CNC.

I'd like to see it compared to the TC-4. The TC-4 has turbulators, which should improve performance, but this new spiral has a "higher flow is better" approach, which I like too.

Look at the bottom of the channel. It looks ribbed.
I have the old spir@l block with copper top.

Is it me or the old one had taller channels? This looks much shorter (in height) at first sight...

In proportion, maybe, but DTEK's site says that it weighs about 1 pound... that's 454 grams, which is a lot more than the original spirals, which met the AMD specs.

Regular: 117 grams
Hi-flow: 195 grams
AMD spec: somewhere around 240 to 300 grams (anyone?)

I don't think the origional spir@ls met amd spec. they were quite large and heavy.

Care to share the link to that review?

I can't seem to find it among the cooler galore at DansData

Oops... it was John Hill that did that, and he did it here:
http://www.overclockers.com/articles546/

I don't think that the Geminicool spir@l has made its way to Australia yet.

bigben2k: That is the Gemini spiral block, not the one Fixitt made in the first place.

Although the spir@l from Dtek/Fixitt looks quite lovely

I've seen that block at Danny's shop and yes it has ribs all up and down the channel. If my memeory is good, the bottom is not ribbed. There is less copper on this version but is as tall as the original version because of the height of the new top.

And this version should be usable with a P4 with just a top swap.

The problem of having less copper is that channels will have less height (the top can be higher but water doesn't flow by the top ) but i suposse that it will be finely designed and that it will not be an issue.

Ribbing the channels is extremely easy. All my sidewalls in my waterblock are ribbed. It only takes the proper bit choice

I have a maze2 right now and have been looking for a new block. The TC4-r2 was going to be mine, then Dtek releases this! My system isn't exactly a high flow system, so the spir@l might be better since the turns aren't as drastic as the TC4's 90-degree turns. Is my logic correct?

Also, I'm converting to 3/8"ID tubing from 1/2"ID. Would having 1/2"ID channels through the spir@l give a negative impact?

ALL I gots to say is GRIN, anny, deserves most of the credit on this, as I have not had the time, nor the strength to add much input

But I will say this, if my cries have not fallen on def ears, the best is yet to come.

well, it doesnt do the block justice. The ribs are from a roughing endmill. I will get some good close up pics of the block. And as far as stock, lets just say that there is a machine shop close to D-Tek, and they are fired up and ready to go,

All I can say is I love my D-Tek Rev2 block. The ASII has finally taken affect and the temps are about 2c below my old Gemini High Volume block. I am only taking a guess, but I do believe that the reason the temps are down is because the pump is not being restricted like it was with the GHVB. Now had I had a 1048 pump just maybe the GHVB would hold it’s ground because it has only 10-watt output. The TC4 is allowing more flow through the block and putting less backpressure on my 1250 pump.

You know what I'm thinkin... That's a nice shiny lookin block, that would aid from less acrylic frills and add some more heat absorbing copper to the top... then Get rid of that usless smooth interior finish and add some randomly milled dimples to seriously increase turbulence! THEN it would and should perform much better... What's with these "prettied" up blocks! Just asking for a potential problem, albeit a small chance, but why take it and while sacrificing the extra cooling power of the copper top! Hehe nice though!
