Evaporative block, Any thoughts??

Im working on an idea that occured to me while poking around the forums here. I wanted to build an evap cooler without the man peeing noise and have it able to fit on my desk, my thought is to build a hollowed out copper block with many 1/4in pipes threaded out the top( if you have lightwave 7.0b email me and i will send you my preliminary drawings, and if anybody has any ideas how i can convert this drawing to a format postable here let me know!) anyways my thought is to have water pumped in to the base block and up through the piping with just enough pressure that the water will run down the outside of the piping(kinda like those little novelty fountains that are everywhere) and into a small resevoir below the base. This whole core will be enclosed inside a plexiglass cube(8in x 8in x 8in most likely) that has two vented sides and top with fans(probably panaflo L1a's voltmodded) pushing air in the sides and out of the top. I am also toying with the idea of a blacklight and dyelite in the water(it has to look cool as well as perform!) but dont know much about that stuff(evaporated dyelite=poisonous??) so any info would be enlightening. cheers

look at my "1st!" thread, same principle, it can work really well, you'll have to use distilled water for long term use, or be prepared to clean out the block periodicly.

build it, test it, tell us.

Bah! that'll learn me for reading your post too quickly, I thought you wanted to make something like my "wet heatsink", well you do, but not sitting on the CPU, ok here's a couple of ideas;

If I'm picturing your idea right it will work ok a minor modification, go to your local auto store and get a synthetic chamois (what you use to dry your care after you wash it) It's important that you get the right one, the one your after is the one that needs to be stored "wet" after you use it (it'll go hard and stiff when dry)

you can do something similar to what I did and weave the material through the piping or individualy wrap wrap each pipe, I found using this material to work much more effectivly than just having the wet copper by it's self.
