Default Abyss or Deep?...

I'm torn between the two!, I want to get everything inside my case. the Deep(£47) would make it very easy, fitted at the front~bottm sucking air in, with a 120mm~fan blow hole up top to equalise pressure, ect...

The Abyss is twice the size for £19 more(£65), but would have to be mounted above the CPU (move PSU to 5.5bays) and would be drawing in case air unless I had it drawing air in downwards into the case, which is not 100% efficiant , it would involve two fans for rad and another two for inlets to balance the airflow. noise is a concern with me. I want it as quiet as possible!(7V or potentio').

Do you think the extra cooling capacity is warranted?, for a non TEC rig?. for the hassle of fitting it?. or do you think the Deep is fine?, I can always get another later(when I save! ) and run them parallel/series with an uprated pump(planning on Iwaki 20RZT)...

Another tidbit: according to OCPC's manufature site the Abyss has a pressure drop of 40mb @ 1000~lpm, yet the smaller Deep has 50mb @ 1000~lpm?. I wonder if the revision2 Deep is the same?...

for a non peltier setup I don't beleive there is any point to go with the much larger radiator, unless you intend to move to a peltier setup, or you want silent cooling

Have you considered putting it on the case floor (Abyss)? When I build my water rig that is what I intend. Drawing air through the floor of the case may require more frequent cleaning of the filter but that filter could be attached with velcro on the outside of the case, won't show much, or at all rigged right.

And as the Abyss has lower flow restriction it would be much better all the way around. Also as you state noise is a concern, the much larger Abyss would allow you to run fans like the Vanted stealths. Never hear them, yet would still be enough to cool your rig. Or you could also try those new alum. framed fans and run them @7v as they are pretty silent to start with also.

Where are these BIE pressure drop figures?

I'm sorry but I don't see any.

While I don't have one to give you for free. www.heatercores4u.com Then go to Buick Electra under the GM section and look at 2-223.

Now I'm not sure but I think even the Abyss couldn't beat that one. And it's a whole lot less money. Even with shipping it I think you'd save.

Much as I was first interested in the Abyss or a double sized BIE at one time, this is one that is now high on my possibles list.

There is another one under the imported trucks section that is even more interesting, except it will require a bit of torch work modding the inlet/outlets to work.

You cant realy compare the abyss to 2 BIE cause the abyss is alot thicker its very good with tecs keeps the water temp at around 8 degrees above ambient with a 226w @ 15.1 tec and 100w cpu load. But if you arnt using tecs then dont bother.

OCPC Manufacturers site This is the site I got the figures off.

The Abyss wont go on my floor, PCI cards (sound) get in the way. dont forget ir 30CM long, and 10CM high by the time you got the fans on. then you need clearance for airflow...

Yeah was afraid that might be a problem, but didn't know what case you have.

Have you looked at that heater core site? Many sizes and you could have it chromed for eye candy if you'd like. That is what I'm thinking of doing, havn't got a price yet on the chroming though.

Look at this one on the heater core site. Go to Audi and then look up 2-541. Now picture this : Cut off the inlet/outlets so they don't curl around so darn far. Then drill large hole in the other tank & solder in a 5/8" ID barb. Now run it this way, Pump to dual inlets, then outlet to MB. This should reduce the restriction of the rad a bit with out any loss of performance as while the water is only going one way it's full width of the rad. Same resulting time in rad tubes without the need of the internal 180 U turn involved. Also doesn't resistence drop as you reduce velocity through tubing? If so this may be a whole lot lower for total resistence of the rad.

Thoughts?

TBH , if your not TEC cooling, an Abyss is not realy needed.
A deep with a decent fan/mounting will be ample

I got my bro~inlaw to order a Deep for me, along with some (13mm ID) silicone tube, couple of 120mm fans, some 5/8~14mm Y's and barbs for later, and lastly some AS3 to replace the stuff that fell off my shelf into the waste paper basket (along with my Maze3 mounting kit!) without me noticing (until three weeks later! )...

Should have my rig all in~case soon , then it's just the GPU&NB blocks to do...

You've talked me into buying a "Deep" rad.
