Welcome to the forums! What are you planning on using that thing for, if I may ask?

Thanks! I recently decided the leave [H]ardForums because of the latest debacle over there and am trying new places out . I've been a longtime lurker of the ProCooling forums and have picked up many tips here .

The pump is for a new wc system I've been planning for quite a while now. For this project, I'm going all out: Lytron 6000 series copper heat-exchanger; a concept block from [H]ardOCP member; and hopefully a waterblock for a radeon 9700 . Should be a hell of a lot of fun .

This link will take you to the performance curves for Iwaki Pumps http://www.apumpstore.com/magneticdr...WMD_CURVES.jpg

This link will lead you to a specs chart
http://www.apumpstore.com/magneticdr.../iwaki_md.html

Should be able to manage back pressure decently...rated at 14' head.

This pump dissipates appr. 60 watts.

Cheers!

Yeah, the block I got for this project severely impedes flow rates so I figured this pump would help in that respect.

I believe I have the block of which you speak, the "White Water" by Cathar. I run this with my 1250 and my temps are 5C lower than with any other block I have ever used. You certainly have my kind of taste! I have been seeking an Iwaki MD-20RLT or RZT for a while, I just have to figure out where to put it in the case!

Aye, that's the waterblock I got . I fear that I face the same problem with this Iwaki: where the hell am I gonna put this monstrosity . I must say though, the Iwaki is one hell of a well built piece of machinery.

I must say though, your mounting has a certain 733tness to it that cannot be denied .

btw, sorry about not posting pics of the pump: unfortunately, it seems my digi-cam has decided to play hide-and-seek with me . But just to give you guys an idea of the sheer magnitude of this things, it measures about 8.5" long and 3 inches in diameter. I reckon its nearly twice as large as an eheim 1060.

well with that pump and rad setup you'll probably have to build an external unit. I'm looking at picking up one of those rads myself. I was looking into the Iwaki (I still want one), but built this instead:

Thanks. Case is a Chieftec Dragon (the big 26" tall one).

Mounting this pump is far from done. Since there are vent holes all around it, I'm thinking about routing a vent behind the mobo plate. Rubber mounting the pump will fit, but I might have to bend the HDD tray a little...

Mounting the pump at the bottom of the case is going to be awfully restrictive on the PCI slots. You'll find out soon enough

Ahh, I never considered that. I guess I'll have a better idea of the shoe-horning I'll have to do to get this thing inside the case .

One more thing... I found that using 3/4 inch ID tubing was a necessity with this pump. The pic (above) has 1/2 fittings, but I've since upgraded it all to 3/4.

The tee at the inlet is going to be relocated: it's meant for a drain valve. I have a PVC res, all built, just not mounted. Top fill hole, through the case.

I just purchased a Lytron Modular Cooling System that features an Iwaki 30RZ pump.

I know these pumps have a great reputation and I am anxious to see it in action.

Cheers!

Yikes! 3/4" !! How did you come to decide that that tubing size was necessary? I was planning on doing some tests with the pump this weekend using 1/2" tubing to see how my flow rates would work with my waterblock. But man, 3/4" is huge!

Yep...

1/2 will work fine, but you loose a lot of head. You simply have to keep the coolant speed under 5 feet per second.

Otherwise you'll loose about 0.6 inches of head, for each inch of length of 1/2 tubing. (assuming 5 gpm aka 300 gph, through a VERY smooth pipe)

Check it out:

Here is another choice of mounting for that pump......dont. Just sit it in the bottom of the case

Motherboard goes on the -other- side of that panel that looks like the far side of the case......

Welcome to ProCooling!, that was some bad shit [H]appened recently, compounded with the 'ban anyone from ProCooling' spate over the block roundup, and it looks like that forums [H]ad it, anyone with any sense or any knowledge/experience to offer has been banned . it looks like they'd rather have the [H]its from a [H]undred noobs than have one person with their own opinion  ...

Ben!, any idea how big an Iwaki MD20RZT is in comparison with your LittleGiant?, the 20RZT is the pump I think I'll go for...

I was considering the 20RLT for the huge flowrate, but think it might loose most of it by the time the restriction balances it out, also what is the size difference between the RLT & RZT?...

***EDIT*** It was the RT I was thinking of, not the RLT. what are the specs/P~curve of the RLT?...

My pump is about 9 inches long, and 4.5 inches tall (excluding the outlet). The Iwaki should be about 10.5 inches long, but 4 inches tall (without the outlet).

Also from the Iwaki website:

"The WMD series runs hotter than the MD series. A rule of thumb is that the pump should be hot to the touch but you should be able to hold your hand on it for about 5 seconds. All MD/WMD pumps are thermally protected to shut off once the pump reaches a critical temperature. There is an automatic reset.
"

"We recommend horizontal mounting but vertical mounting can be utilized up to size 40. A heads up position is preferred. Always be sure that flooded suction conditions exist when mounting the pump vertically." (in other words, keep it primed!)

"For our MD-6 through (W)MD-30 series, the motor type is Totally Enclosed Non-Ventilated (TENV). For our (W)MD-40 and above, the motor is Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC). All but one model are Permanent Split capacitor motors. We use the best bearing available in motors of this type, sealed-for-life roller bearings. We custom manufacture all of these motors and they are specific to our product only. You can not purchase them elsewhere."

I believe that the same applies to my pump too.

jus one mo time

the fish people learned all about Iwaki pumps years ago, perhaps we should listen to what they recommend

use the MD motors - pay the price
less noise, run cooler, last longer
(why on earth would WCers opt for a hotter running motor ?)

and that thermal protection could be real exciting
several types of protective shutdown circuits can be devised, use one
