Default Does brass & copper polish affect the block greatly ?

After lapping my water block with a 600 grit I used "Goddards Brass & Copper Polish" to finish it off (including the base), just using soft toilet paper as the applicator & duster, it came up like a mirror.
But I've been reading the forum archives and it seems that this is not a good idea after all !!
Does it really affect the temps that much by using a metal polish ?

Cheers
Chris.

The joint can throw off your CPU temps by as much as 10 deg C, so it's critical to keep it clean.

Using the polish, you'll more than likely leave a residue. TP will also come apart quite easily.

An Acetone wash would be in order, assuming that it would dissolve the polish. If you do this, be aware of what Acetone is, and what it can do!

Some people report using some alcohol as well, or instead of.

I concur, though I'd relap the bottom before use. Those polishes can really get ingrained in the metal itself, and can undo the lapping itself. I know from bad Navy experiences with belt buckles (if you polish them enough, the brass coating comes off completely [gets sanded away], leaving you with this ugly steel looking piece of crap and $6 less after you go to the NEX to get a new one).

Resand it, brutha man.
