Well here is a secret if you use plastic you can use PVC cement on some pumps and some fittings and it will actually activate the plastic and PERMANTLY bond the too together. Just hope that you NEVER have to change the fittings.

P.S. Don't you teflon tape AND cement it don't work too good, if you know what I mean.

for Danners? I think that they are 1/2" thread x 1/2" barb, one male and one female. Just take your pump into the hardware store

use plastic. the metal fittings have a tendency to split the housing apart. the plastic won't do that as easy. BTW, the metal ones won't help cool jack~@!#

Yes they will help cool but it will be a tiny unnoticable bit as I told you. It is up to you man the plastics are cheaper I geuss get those. I have 8 fittings all brass except 1 nylon just the way it worked. I just grabbed what fit and it happened to be brass. Either is fine and either just works.

Deffiniatly use plastic fittings with the Danners. Try to get nylon if you can (it is a bit softer than PVC). I have learned this the hard way by cracking the intake of my Danner 5 twice. Once was total stupidity from simply cranking the barb too tight, the second time was from lousy nylon reinforced vinyl tubbing "torquing" on the intake fitting, and a hair line crack appeared. My system is now down while a wait for a replacement impeller housing

If you get the Nylon you can use Rit Dye (the kind you use on your cloths) and dye them any color. I plan to do this in my next system.

dd heres an option for you. tak the housing you have, and go to home depot. go to the isle with all the pvc pipefittings. i found one that fits just right over the end of the ehiem 1250 that i have, i had cracked it just like you. i applied a little glue, and 2 bucks in fittings(even managed to get it reduced to 1/2 npt on the end ) a little glue and i was all set!

outta be cheaper/faster than getting a replacement. also for the ones like the rio where the input is not threaded this option would allow you to take it(with bushings) to any size you wanted and have it be effectively one piece.

Rule Of Thumb.

Use the same material as what it is screwing into.

IMHO

dont u get noise from the pump and uses fixed fittings? Most of my system is done in 15mm copper pipe, but the parts where it joins the pump i've done in sillicone for that very reason:
