Default advice?

i've got a camaro project, that's been taking a long time to to. it's still a very long way (money wise) from completion. mostly i don't work on it right now because i don't have the shop space. but, the car is one of those cars i just don't really want to part with.

a good friend of mine recently offered to buy it from me, but doesn't really want to offer a ton of cash, apparently. he's been bugging me a lot. i really, really hate giving her up. he's recently made a new offer that is a lot more compelling.

he recently acquired a tubo mx-6 (around an 86) he says is in fairly decent shape, and respectably fast for a 2-liter car. my daily driver is an 89 b2200. if you've ever had one, it's "the little truck that couldn't" but gets amazing gas mileage and is very reliable.

the motors themselves are almost identical, but not compatible because mostly of the head and the placement of the distributor, however the turbo and FI theoretiaclly are pretty much the same. he's offering parts & install (running) into my truck, or a swap of parts to put the turbo on my truck. this would make it the "truck that could", boosting it probably at least 100hp stock-like. this wouldn't make it really fast, but probably enough taking the gearing into consideration to beat some imports and a few domestics. my original intent was for a turbo rotary, which has been documented to put them in the 9's in fairly stock trim. but, it would be a rather cheaper way to do it, and i could probably strike the deal with him painting the truck, if i bought the paint.

the truck only has 67k miles on it, and i'm sure the car has more, so i don't want the motor, just the turbo and FI stuff.

what would you do? just curious. it's a difficult decision. i have to have a camaro, but i figure it's not going to be incredibly difficult to find another IROC in 6 months or so. it couldn't be, could it? i have a bet with an ex, so i have to have an IROC, preferrably 85.

thanks.

It's a money issue, any way you look at it.

Ask yourself: is it worth the time and effort, to beef up your old but reliable b2200? Is it going to make it more reliable? More importantly, can you trust this guy not to mess up your truck? Can you afford to have to tinker with it, while it's the vehicule that you depend on? Would you be able to fix it?

IMO, having a car hobby is just fine, but it must be clear wether it's intended to replace the car/vehicule of daily use or not. You say that you must have a Camaro, and that's fine, but would you drive it daily, or just on the weekends? I'll have a garage of my own someday... maybe we can get together!

well, first off, yes i hope i can trust this guy, he's my business partner .

secondly, no the camaro is not a daily, and never will be. it never was, in fact.

the intent is to make the mazda eventually into a show truck... so i can represent import and domestic (our shop covers both). but, until then it is my daily driver

i think it'd probably be best for me to rebuild the camaro, then hold out for the rotary, buy a corolla for a daily (or the solara conv. i want), and then go nuts with the mazda, too.

bigben, you're welcome to our shop anytime! we're still small, but we're doing alright

thanks for the input.
